Fouhy<\/strong><br \/><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, sans-serif, arial;\"><em>Founding Director, Pew Center for Civic Journalism<br \/>Executive Director, Pew Center on the States<\/em><\/span><\/p><p>Ed Fouhy is the executive director of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stateline.org\/\">Pew Center on the States<\/a>, an Internet-based research and information service established to report on innovative public policy issues at the state level. The Center is an initiative of the Pew Charitable Trusts of Philadelphia. Fouhy previously was founder and, for five years, executive director of the Pew Center for Civic Journalism.<\/p><p>He was a reporter, producer and news executive for more than 25 years beginning as an associate producer with CBS News in 1966, Saigon bureau chief at the height of the war, then senior Washington producer of the &#8220;CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite&#8221; during the Watergate years. Later he became CBS News Washington Bureau Chief, then CBS News Vice President and News Director, directing the network&#8217;s worldwide news bureaus and correspondents as well as supervising all of CBS&#8217;s hard news broadcasts. Fouhy also served as ABC News Vice President and Washington Bureau Chief and as executive producer for prime time news magazine programs at NBC News. He was executive producer of both the 1988 and 1992 presidential debates.<\/p><p>He has won five national Emmys for the hard news and magazine programs he has produced, as well as the Drew Pearson Award for investigative reporting.<\/p><p>He has frequently spoken about and written numerous articles on media issues. His articles have appeared in The New York Times, Atlanta Constitution, Dallas Times-Herald , Broadcasting and Cable, Nieman Reports ,American Journalism Review and other publications.<\/p><p>He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and holds a masters degree from Boston University as well as an honorary doctorate. He was a fellow at Harvard in the \u00d487-\u00d588 academic year.<\/p><p>Fouhy is a former Marine Corps officer who was cited for leadership under combat conditions in Lebanon.
